At the site of the Gold Star Families Memorial at Lafayette Park, on the corner of North Hawk Street and Washington Ave., “the Gold Star Families and elected officials on Wednesday (August 31, 2016) announced a fundraising effort for the Memorial Monument Project in Lafayette Park to honor families of those killed during military service.

The monument will be located next to the Vietnam Veterans Monument in the park, near the corner of Washington Avenue and North Hawk Street. It will be the second in the state to honor Gold Star families.

The state Office of General Services issued an easement to the Tri-County Council of Vietnam Era Veterans Inc. to construct the Gold Star Families Memorial,” from the Albany Times Union staff article with pictures by Paul Buckowski, August 31, 2016.

At the December 11th Gold Star Families Monument chaired by Charlie Diamond, their committee raised over $27,000.00 at the Watervliet event. It is hope to better that mark in February.

Our organizing meeting for the Gold Star Families Monument will be this Thursday evening at 5:00 PM (1700 hours for the military folks) at the Albany Elks Lodge #49 at 25 South Allen Street, Albany New York. All are invited to attend.

God bless all of our Veterans and especially the families of those who died on our behalf.  The effort to raise the funds to construct the monument needs your help and support.  We hope to see you at the event Thursday, February 11, 2017 for a moderately priced evening.  We will be announcing the Sponsorship levels after this Thursday evening’s meeting.  God bless all here.
