Gold Star Families Monument A Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy Capstone Project - TAMPA FL

The Background

Over the summer, many teachers were introduced to a Medal of Honor recipient named, Hershel “Woody” Williams. He has a mission to build a Gold Star Families Monument in every state. We want to help.

What is a Gold Star Family?

A Gold Star family suffered the loss of a loved one serving in the military. This monument will memorialize the sacrifices of these loved ones as well as family members who remain to grieve the loss.

What do we want to do?

Our goal is to build a Gold Star Families Monument on the Franklin BPA campus directly adjacent to the flag pole in front of the building. This will provide the community the ability to view and visit the monument.

Why Franklin BPA?

  • We are a 2-time Clean Campus award winner and can ensure the monument will be cared for.
  • Our school creed demands we protect and respect the monument.
  • We have unending gratitude and appreciation for those who have sacrificed for our freedoms.
  • The message of the monument is reflected in our school creed.

How will we make it happen?

Preliminary estimates indicate we will need to raise approximately $38,000. We plan to raise these funds by asking local business owners and private citizens to contribute time or money to the project. We believe the endeavor will attract a tremendous amount of attention and provide a way for community members to spread an important message.

How can you help?

  • Provide guidance and advice as we seek School Board permission for the project
  • Help draw attention to the project
  • Support and encourage students who are involved in the project
  • Allow us to consult your expertise in making the project a success

This memorial monument was dedicated on May 21, 2015.
